Born in Copenhagen Denmark in 1958 Jorgen grew up a child in the 60’s.
Danish TV was heavily influenced by American entertainment, with such weekly shows as “The Flintstones", “Thunderbirds Are Go” and “Wonderful World of Disney”.
The Donald Duck Magazine with the brilliant artist Carl Barks’ illustrated stories also was a big influence and reason for wanting to work for the Walt Disney Studios.
The dream of becoming a Disney Artist was realized after 3 years of studying first at the Danish School of Art and Design then at CalArts Character Animation Program in Los Angeles on a full Disney Scholarship.
Jorgen was hired by Walt Disney Productions in 1979 as an assistant animator on “The Fox And The Hound”.
Then followed a job as an animator on Steven Spielberg’s “An American Tail”, followed by a year at Disney’s Comics Dept. where Jorgen, among other assignments, illustrated the daily Donald Duck.
Jorgen returned to Disney Animation as an animator on “Oliver and Co.”, “The Little Mermaid”, becoming a Supervising Animator on “The Rescuers Down Under”.
On an invitation from Danish Television, Jorgen then took a year out to develop an original children’s Television program ”Tim & Thomas” before returning to San Fransisco to do storyboards on “A Nightmare Before Christmas” for Tim Burton and Henry Selick, friends from CalArts and early Disney Studio days.
Coming back to Burbank and Disney Animation Jorgen then contributed to “Pocahontas”, “Mulan” and “The Lion King” also as “story-man” working alongside the great Joe Grant and Vance Gerry, all of them writing and sketching
ideas for movie sequences.
Jorgen returned to Skellington Productions for “James and The Giant Peach” before heading across the bay to Pixar in Emeryville to work with his old friend John Lasseter on “Toy Story” and “A Bugs Life”.
Jorgen continued at Pixar on “Monsters Inc.” and “Toy Story 2” before pitching the idea and then co-writing CARS, with John Lasseter and his old CalArts class mate Joe Ranft.
Jorgen then got invited to Laika Animation Studio in Portland to help storyboard Henry Selick’s short film “Moon Girl”. He stayed there to write and develop another original idea of his, (work title;) ”Jack And Ben” - about two inexperienced bluebird brothers who gets lost from their flock migrating south for the first time. (The project got shelved as Laika management eventually decided against doing CGI movies, focusing only on Stop Motion.)
Jorgen freelanced and worked on a number of big and small projects to stay afloat while refocusing his creativity on his latent Danish music career. Among the movie titles Jorgen touched during this time was, “Free Birds”, “Shrek Forever After”, “Curious George”, “Brother Bear 2”, “The Emoji Movie” and “Wonder Park”.
Jorgen’s old friend Rick Heinricks and Tim Burton then asked Jorgen to help develop their feature length version of FRANKENWENIE by helping to start up the art department in Los Angeles. Jorgen then stayed on becoming part of the story-board crew when the production moved to London. Jorgen continued with Rick and Tim on DUMBO and later worked in the art department for the first 4 episodes of Amazon’s “Power Of The Rings” also production designed by his friend Rick Heinrichs.
Recently retired, Jorgen still free lances and writes movie scripts for animated movies produced as far away as China and Turkey, all the while working on his own animated short film out of his home in Glendale California.
Jorgen lives there with his wife Trine and their teenage son Miles, in a house he bought from Joe Grant, one of Disney’s key story-men in the 30’s and 40’s. (Jorgen also has 2 children from a previous marriage, a son Louis and a daughter Juliane, who both live in Denmark.)
Jorgen has taught Story for animation at the Danish Film School, at The Animation Workshop in Viborg, at ORT University in Montevideo-Uruguay on behalf of Cal Arts and at Emile Cohl Animation School in Los Angeles.
Musically, Jorgen established the Danish Band DANSEORKESTRET in 1984 and has toured and recorded as the lead singer for 4 decades.
Jorgen also released solo albums and still performs in his native Denmark almost every summer.
